Claire Lacey

Claire Lacey is a multidisciplinary writer, poet, performer and educator from Canada. Her first book, Twin Tongues, won the 2013 Robert Kroetsch Award for Innovative Poetry. Twin Tongues explores the colonial legacy of the English language in Papua New Guinea, and features a mouthy crow. A collaboration with artist Sachie Ogawa resulted in Selkie, a graphic novel romance inspired by Celtic folklore. Claire's work can be found in publications including Landfall, 1964, Corpus, Filing Station, Dandelion, Neurosurgery, and The Windsor Review.

Claire holds a master's degree in creative writing from the University of Calgary, and has an eclectic work history that ranges from selling roller skates to writing about neurosurgical robotics.

Currently, Claire lives in Dunedin and holds the University of Otago's City of Literature PhD scholarship. Her creative/critical thesis is on the subject of poetry and brain injury. An essay related to this work is forthcoming in the anthology Impact: Women Writing After Concussion from the University of Alberta Press.
