An alternative living magazine, began in Waitati Dunedin and published from 1974-85.
Their opening editorial stated: “Call it subsistence publishing if you like. We want to cover:
Communes and Communities, The Ohu Scheme, Home Steading, Rural Technology, Alternative Schooling, Natural Foods, Organic Gardening and Farming, Crafts, Survival in Cities, Personal Awareness…… by the Editors”
Mushroom was a major distribution network for and of the counterculture and alternative movements in New Zealand.
