Brian Benn's newspaper articles that lined the Dunedin LandSAR HQ
Main details
Police SAR (Search and Rescue) Sergeant, Brian Benn collected over a period of 20 years most articles relating to Search and Rescue in the coastal Otago region, these covered the walls of the SAR store at the Dunedin Police station. With the relocation of this SAR store, the newspaper clippings had to be removed and were scanned at this point. Some of these clipping have annotations added and relate to other photographs and stories within the Dunedin LandSAR and Marine SAR group pages. They are a comprehensive collection of newspaper articles and other ephemera on searches undertaken by the Dunedin Police Search and rescue squad, Dunedin LandSAR and Dunedin MarineSAR.
Brian did his best to save any of these articles as he could as could get hold of copies. They made for very interesting reading whilst waiting to be deployed, which is referred to in LandSAR as "Hurry up and wait"
They were inspiring for searchers who were awaiting deployment and certainly helped one to get keyed into being prepared for the field.
