Jubilee Hut, Silverpeaks, Otago

Description

Jubilee Hut was built by the Department of Conservation in the Silverpeaks to replace the old hut that was built for the 25^th Jubilee of the Otago Tramping Club in 1948. This is a standard ten-bunk hut in the Coastal Otago area. The Silverpeaks

Scenic Reserve provides challenging routes in rugged country, less than 30 minutes by car from Dunedin city.

The old Jubilee Hut used to be on a terrace just above the stream. The fireplace and some foundations are still there. It was a very cold and frosty site in the winter. The new hut has been built in a drier and sunnier location.
