Antiphonal, Latin. England, fourteenth century

Two fragments from a single leaf. 240 by 340mm and 223 by 340mm. Double column, probably originally about 39 lines, ruled in leadpoint, written space approx. 350 by 257mm; gothic liturgical hand. 

Text: Part of the Offices for Palm Sunday and for Monday in Passion Week. Music in Hufnagelschrift neumes on a 4-line stave.
Decoration: Some calligraphic initials in dark brown; 2-line initials in red or blue with penwork in the contrasting colour.
Provenance: Recovered from a binding. Contemporary foliation 'C.xlii’ on verso; folio 142 in a volume that presumably formed the first volume of the Temporal. Source and date of acquisition unrecorded.
