Essie Summers remains New Zealand's most successful novelist. Her place in New Zealand's writing history was celebrated with the dedication of a plaque on Dunedin's Writers' Walk. Dunedin Mayor Aaron Hawkins and David Crooke addressed the crowd before Essie's son and daughter unveiled the plaque.
