Jim Kelly, Former President Rail and Maritime Transport Union.
Jim came to New Zealand from Scotland 30 years ago and very quickly gained employment at Hillside Workshops. Soon after, he attended the Union AGM and ended up as Branch Secretary.
This was the start of a long association with the union movement both locally and nationally that saw him serve at the highest level and travel the world. The Labour Party is also a big part of his life, not just the political side but the efforts they put back into the local community. He is a true local lad now. “While I'm alive and kicking and got the strength I'll always help as much as I can.”
