Joy Jones, Robbie's, South Dunedin / Cheese Roll Expert.
Joy is a true Southern girl, born and brought up in Tuatapere. She became involved in hospitality as owner of the New Orleans Pub in Arrowtown where the world famous cheese rolls, based on her mother's family recipe, started.
Once she took ownership of Robbie's in South Dunedin, she was encouraged to enter a competition for the best cheese rolls through the Otago Daily Times and she won. The pub is famous in the area for its food as well as being something of a community gathering place. “It's mainly about the food, they come from all over town for it.” Joy describes the patrons as “colourful characters”.
