Whetu Cormack, Tainui, Ngāti Raukawa ki Wharepuhunga / Principal Bathgate Park School.
Whetu was Principal of Macandrew Intermediate up until it was integrated with four other South Dunedin schools in 2011. The renamed Bathgate Park School opened in 2012. The first couple of
years has been a journey creating a new school with a new culture, while continuing to acknowledge the 130 year history of education at the school. He lives and loves living in the community, speaking passionately of the resilience of the children of South Dunedin who have seen adversity from school closures through to floods, on top of their daily challenges. Whetu says about the 2015 flooding, “South Dunedin will move on, as it’s the kids that move quickly.”
