Robin Smith, Presbyterian Minister / Labour Party Stalwart / Retired
Robin was born in Taranaki and came down to live in Dunedin at the age of four, this was the start of his love affair with the city. He remembers the tail-end of the Depression, and a clear memory
was the election of the first Labour Government in 1935. This started a life-long affiliation with the Labour Party. He served in the Army and also the Air Force during the war, but his only overseas service was navigation training off the Taranaki coast.
After the war he studied at Knox College and became a Minister, a lifetime commitment to helping many people around the country followed. He eventually retired to South Dunedin. Why South Dunedin? “In my present state of health I need a walking stick to get around, I’m very glad I’m on the level, the flat.”
