Allison Dobbie was City Librarian (Library Services Manager) from 1989-2001. She began working for Dunedin Public Library in the late 1960s, and completed her degree at Otago University. She attended Library School in 1974, and then worked in various senior roles at the Dunedin Public Library during her career. During her tenure as City Librarian, Allison managed the transition from autonomous community libraries, under borough councils, to the new cooperative model under the amalgamated City Council system from 1989, when the collective branches and the central City Library became part of 'Dunedin Public Libraries'.
