The Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre was built in 1961 by theatre-lovers Patric and Rosalie Carey, who decided to extend their 1860's London Street, Dunedin villa to accommodate a theatre. Initially holding performances in their drawing room, they had a stage and auditorium built on to the home, which still operates as a theatre to this day. The Globe is managed by the Friends of the Globe, who not only maintain the property (including the original home of the Careys, which now houses the backstage, wardrobe and props area) but also write and direct plays and operate as a full amateur theatre company. 

In 2014-2015 extensive renovations were carried out on the theatre to weatherproof the building and modernise the toilets and dressing rooms. The theatre has a 70-capacity auditorium, a cinema projector and screen and is available for hire.
