Christine Garey

Councillor Christine Garey is Deputy Mayor of Ōtepoti Dunedin (at time of writing), serving her second term on Council. Christine is a passionate advocate of the arts and international education.

She has served nearly fourteen years in local government: a city councillor for the past four years, previously nine as a community board member, including serving on the national body for community boards.

Christine has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Otago, with a major in Geography and a special interest in urban planning. She has Post Graduate Diplomas in Marketing and Public Relations, as well as teaching qualifications. Her business experience spans from her formative years amid a background of her family’s high profile manufacturing business, to her professional experience working for a corporate, and more recently, in her own family’s small bespoke business.

While she grew up in Oamaru, Dunedin has always been part of her story. Her parents were from Dunedin, but she first came to the city as a student, and nearly thirty years ago, chose to settle in Dunedin with her own family.
