Read Share Grow keeps on growing
Despite recent Covid interruptions, the Read Share Grow | Te Mana o te Kupu project continues on into 2022 and beyond, helping promote reading as a fun activity for children.
Along with an amazing network of local businesses, schools, ECEs and service agencies, and partners we are working on getting quality books for children into as many South Dunedin homes as possible.
These books are to take home and keep, and when children can choose their own books, they are much more likely to enjoy them. One never knows what might draw a child to a certain book! That said, some children do enjoy bringing books back to the store, service, or Lilliput library, to ‘get another story’, and this is perfectly fine as well. Or feel free to share them with friends or whānau.

Read Share Grow updates
Read Share Grow has a new team member Allan Silvestro, who has been busily boxing up books to deliver through community networks. His extra hands will be needed as the project has expanded from the initial age range of 3 to 7 years, up to 12 years of age. We are building up our stocks of graphic novels, youth fiction and non-fiction books alongside the picture books we have been distributing since late 2020.

Te Awhi Rito Reading Ambassador
Another development of note is the launch of the website for Te Awhi Rito, New Zealand’s Reading Ambassador poet and storyteller Ben Brown. The website contains his latest blogs and news and events about and related to Te Awhi Rito, including opportunities to hear Ben in action. Ben is passionate about reading and the huge benefits engaging with stories, both written and oral, brings to young people. Te Awhi Rito is also rumoured to be coming to Ōtepoti soon, so watch this space for details of events to hear him speak in person!
