Summer Reading in South Dunedin

Summer reading is a relaxing and enjoyable activity for your tamariki over the summer holidays and is an important way of maintaining reading gains from the year.

You can help support and keep tamariki reading over the summer by having things for them to read at home and by reading and sharing stories with them.

Visit your local library 

Visit the local library and let your tamariki choose books to read. While there, register for Dunedin library’s Summer Reading Programmes or register online. Younger tamariki can join in with ‘Read me a Story’ cards, also available at the pop-up library and bookbus. 

The Read Share Grow Book Trail map

Download the The Read Share Grow Book Trail map and use it to find books in Lilliput libraries around South Dunedin. It also indicates the location of the local pop up library. And there is an activity to encourage tamariki to find, keep and share books.

Dunedin Public Libraries Summer Reading Programme

Tamariki in Years 1-8 at school can sign up for the City of Readers Children's Summer Reading Programme. Find out more and register at the local library from 1 December. 

Younger tamariki can join in with ‘Read me a Story’ cards available at the local library and bookbus.
