Dunedin Punch and Otago Punch

London Punch magazine was circulated in New Zealand, and its popularity led to locally published journals. Regional versions appeared in Auckland (1868-1869), New Plymouth (1860), Canterbury (1865-1866), Wellington (1868), and Dunedin (1865-1867). There was also a New Zealand Punch (1898-1900). The magazine covered a mixture of national and local issues and was often political and satirical in nature.

On 1 September 1866, Dunedin Punch changed its name to the Otago Punch, but continued to be produced by the Dunedin office.

 To date we have digitised our volumes of Dunedin Punch (1865-1866) and Otago Punch (1866-1867) available below. Please note we additionally hold a small number of issues of both New Zealand Punch and Melbourne Punch, which can be viewed in our Heritage Collections reading room.
