In 2002 we located an old tunnel on the Taieri river, upstream from Middlemarch. It was dug by gold miners who were trying to divert the Taieri river so they could mine the river bed. It must have been a lot of work and Very little gold was found. We cleared out the logs and trees at the top end and then rafted through the tunnel a few times just for fun. In the raft are Stu Casey / Wayne Casey / Darryl Fairburn and Brian Benn
