Details
DescriptionA crowd gathers to witness the Penang depart Port Chalmers in 1938. After a storm damaged the ship's topgallant and topmast, it stopped in Dunedin for repairs before continuing its journey to England. The ship was used in the Australian wheat trade. The ship photos of the ‘Penang’ were taken by Sydney Benjamin Taylor, working as the ODT photographer around 1925. His daughter, Esme Jean Taylor now deceased, passed them on to Peter Jenkin, his grandson, who lives in Dunbars Road in Christchurch (age 74) who gives his permission to put them on Scattered Seeds.
