Miss Joan Green

MISS JOAN GREEN

Joan Green was the youngest child of Samuel and Mary Green and grand-daughter of Alexander and Catherine Livingstone. She was born in this district on the 11th of December 1888. In 1853 the Livingstone family leased a 50 acre property at Taieri Mouth from Johnny Jones. Alexander Livingstone died in 1859 and the land was freeholded by the widow Catherine in January 1862. The eastern portion of the 50 acre area is where the park is sited. The ownership of the land passed down through succeeding family and Miss Green resided on the property for many years before retiring to Smith Street, Dunedin. She passed away at Balclutha on the 15th of April 1978 and is buried with her grandparents Alexander and Catherine Livingstone, in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin Joan Green was a public spirited citizen, who in her own quiet way, gave generously to many good causes. The donation of this park was made to an appreciative War Amputees Association in 1949.
