Outram Public School, Outram, Otago

The Outram School Primer Room Building was built in 1893.

The first school building in Outram was built in 1873 on crown land later used by the railway. In 1880 a brick building was added to accommodate the growing population. Starting at 112 pupils the roll increased to a high of 190 in 1892. In 1893 it is said that Mr John White taught 99 children from Standard 3-7 in one room. Hence the wooden classroom to relieve the pressure was added to the school premises in 1893 to become the infant room.

This building served the school for 100 years before being relocated to the Taieri Historic Park. It was acquired by the Taieri Historical Society in 1997. The roof and top half were removed to clear power lines while being transported to the Park.
