L D Bridge

Bill Bridge (L.D.Bridge M.B.E) wrote the formative guide to Search and Rescue which was written in 1959 and published in 1960, called Mountain Search and Rescue in New Zealand. At the time Search and Rescue came under the FMC/SAR committee (Federated Mountain Clubs Search and Rescue sub-committee), with representatives throughout New Zealand. This book was the first comprehensive manual on the subject specific to New Zealand, and at this time the start of a formative SAR structure. In the book he acknowledges his formative time with the Tararua Tramping club.

He was a Chief Inspector, New Zealand Police, the past president of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand (1956-1958), past Chief Guide of the Tararua Tramping club of Wellington (1939-1951) and a mountain club representative on the New Zealand Search and Rescue Organisation.

Bill Bridge died on a SAREX in the Orongorongos in the mid 1970's.
