2 Holyhead Street, Outram - currently 'the Watchmaker's House'
What is now the watchmaker's house and workshop (Timepieces, Outram), number 2 Holyhead Street was built around 1910.
The house was built for Johanna Christie in 1881, and she lived there until her death in 1896. The property then transferred to Elizabeth McDiarmid in April 1897; then to Helen Miller in April 1900.
The house was bought by Robert Duff, the butcher, in April 1937, who held in joint tenancy with Bruce Duff until 1958, when Kevin Howell, a lorry driver, took over the property. The house was then purchased by Melville Bathgate in October 1958, and was then sold to Thomas Howell, a farmer, in July 1960. Alexander and Elizabeth Low bought the house in September 1960, and then the property passed to Avis Bathgate in February 1982 on the death of Mr & Mrs Low. Avis sold the house to Tom and Johanna Van Aalst in 1982.
